Aurel vs World Deutsch
Warning

You do everything.
Nobody notices.
Aurel knows the feeling.

A small Westie, a note with thirty things on it and one day when he got through every single one. The list got shorter. The kitchen did not get better.

Book one · 102 pages · paperback and hardcover

The problem

The list never gets shorter.

You do the laundry, the dishes, the bills, the plants. You do it well. And by the evening it looks as though nothing happened at all.

Done right, you do not see it.

And that is the real point. Anyone who takes care of things should be seen – even when the whole job consists of nothing standing out.

That is where Aurel comes in. He took the note off the fridge and worked through it. Item by item.

The note on the fridge. Thirty things. New every day.

He polishes the good shoes in the sandwich toaster. Shoes need polish and pressure.

The work nobody mentions. Unless it is missing.

Give it away

The gift that makes someone say: at last somebody sees it.

Who is telling this

Aurel

Aurel

West Highland White Terrier. Wears an apron. Takes the note on the fridge more seriously than anybody else in the house. Considers himself underpaid.

His videos are watched more than a million times a week. This book is his side of the story – written down, because he has no thumbs of his own.

The thing about creases

7:45

My father has talked about these shirts three times. Once in the kitchen, once in the hallway and once from inside the bathroom, which was particularly impressive because the door was shut.

It is about the creases. The shirts come out of the wash with creases, every time, and every time my father stands in front of them and says: “I don’t believe it.”

Believe it. It has been going on for years. And then he puts the shirt on anyway and leaves the house in it, and I stay here and know that nobody is going to do anything about it.

Today I am doing something about it.

Creases are heat. I did not make that up, it says something similar on the iron, and reading is something I can do.

The shirts have no creases any more. None at all. They are completely smooth, in every direction, and anyone who says otherwise is welcome to come over and look.

We will talk about the sleeves tonight.

The thing about creases

Otherwise

Without Aurel the note just stays on the fridge.

Thirty things, new every day, and nobody says thank you. Aurel does not change that. He does make it funnier.

How it ends

And then somebody sits there and laughs.

At a dog who gets everything wrong and means every bit of it. And somewhere between the baking tray and the winter tyres comes the moment where somebody feels seen.

That is what the book is for.

Never Let a Dog Do the Housework is book one of the Aurel vs World series by Yvonne Heinzelmann. A gift book for grown-ups, for dog people and for everyone who runs a household. 102 pages, in paperback and hardcover on Amazon, in English and in German.
